The Church of the Assumption of Our Lady

It was built in 1700 - 1707 , according to original plans of an Italian master, Dominico de Angeli, in the place of the original church of God Mother from the first half of 13th century. The Baroque building is 63 metres long, 26 metres wide, 22 metres high, its tower is 63,5 metres high. The interior is richly decorated with stucco by Italian masters. During the year 1707, the painter Luca Antonio Colomba and the sculptor and stuccoer Giacomo Antonio Corbellini worked on its decoration. In the temple there are 10 altars, a tin baptismal font (1617), in the crypt there are tombs of the family of Zejdlic. Sieber´s organ (1708) is the largest well-preserved baroque instrument of domestic origin. Another organ (so-called "literatske"), newly restored, is also remarkable.

The Church of St. Catherine

It was probably founded in the middle of 14th century by the lords of Pirkstejn, in a place called Strazny vrch ("Guard Hill"). The remains of frescos (15th century) are very interesting. Around the church there is a small cemetery, by the opposite wall you can find the grave (in Art Noveau style) of a Polna native and patron, an entrepreneur, Karel Varhanek.

The Church of St. Anne

It is located in Sezima´s square. It was founded by a squire Jan Sezima from Rochov and his wife, Katerina from Mocovice, in 1447. Its pseudogothic reconstruction dates back to 1893 - 1894. The gables of the two neighbouring burghers´ houses are also interesting. The Hus´s Library (1914) is located in one of the houses nowadays.

The Cemetery Church of St. Barbara

It was built on the ground plan of a Greek cross in 1720 - 1725, thanks to P. Pavel Haberlandt, the dean at that time. The ceiling frescos were painted by J. Czeregetti from Chrudim.The altars were carved out by Vaclav Moravek, the Prague´s sculptor F. M. Brokoff´s pupil.

The Area of  the Castle and the Chateau

Originally a castle from 13th century, it represents a complex of fragments of architectural objects, built in various style concepts. During centuries, it had been rebuilt several times. After the great fire in 1794, it wasn´t renovated again. In 1925 the buildings were purchased by a factory owner, Vaclav Pojmann, who donated them to TJ Sokol Polna (a sports organization) and the Club of the Town´s Museum. During 1985 - 2004, an extensive reconstruction was under way. In the courtyard there is a fountain (1693). In the complex there are several institutions: The School of Arts (ZUS), the Cultural Centre, the branch of the "Museum of Highlands" Jihlava, and also the "Chateau Restaurant" with accomodation.

The Deanery and so-called Kaplanka

These buildings date back to the beginning of 18th century. In the middle of 18th century, a school was founded in "kaplanka". There had also been a museum for 25 years (since 1900). Nowadays, the building of "kaplanka" is used for the purposes of the Police of the Czech Republic.

The Burghers´ Houses in Hus´s Square

The cores of the majority of the houses date back to the Renaissance period. The house number 49 ("U Rytiru") was built by Viktorin of Kunstat in 1479. In the house number 34 ("U Zlate hvezdy") there was a famous pub in 1694 - 1994. You can pass through the house to get to the Health Centre, to the Upper Town and the Ghetto. Other interesting houses are: the house number 41 (the restaurant "U Slovana") - it used to be a centre of cultural life in Polna in the second half of 19th century ; the house number 47 (the famous Czech woman writer Bozena Nemcova lived there in 1840 - 1842) and the house number 48 (a two - storeyed "Bachelors´ house", you can find the post-office there).

The Old School of Polna

The permanent exposition of the Museum of Higlands Jihlava, Polna subsidiary, documents the history of education and teaching from the middle of 18th century to the end of 19th century. It is located in a Baroque house number 77 in Podebradova street. The exhibition is really worth seeing. It consists of an old classroom, the teacher´s flat etc. (However, the guide to the Old School is to be found in the seat of the Museum, in the area of the Castle.)

The Brewery Buildings

The complex of the former burghers´ brewery buildings (1863 - 1865) is on the list of the sights protected by the state. Since 2000, the buildings are being reconstructed by a private owner, an entrepreneur Ivan Vlach. A famous Czech writer Bohumil Hrabal had lived with his parents in the right part of the brewery section (1917 - 1919). His stepfather had worked there as an accountant since 1914. Beer had been brewed in Polna since 14th century.

The Jewish Cemetery

It is situated 700 metres north-west of Hus´s Square, behind the street "Pod Kalvarii". Since 16th century, it had been enlarged several times. There are valuable Baroque, Classicistic and new gravestones. The cemetery is being preserved by the group of local enthusiasts since 1988. In the last decade, the attention of some newspapers and magazines was attracted by the rumour about the possible origin of Adolf Hitler´s ancestors in Polna. Especially the gravestone of Rosalia Müller, nee Hüttler, in the right part of the cemetery, attracted attention.

The Ghetto

It has got two parts - the original town with a triangular plan, and the lower place, so-called Rabbinical place. There are 32 houses rebuilt in new style, a synagagoue and a rabbinical house.

The Synagogue and the Rabbinical House

In the Synagagoue you can find the Regional Jewish Museum with its permanent exhibitions "Leopold Hilsner´s Case" and "The History of the Jews in Polna and its Surroundings". Occasional exhibitions and concerts take place here, too. From the upper place you can pass through the Rabbinical house to the Rabbinical place.
